Having trouble dealing with stress at work? Don’t worry you’re not the only one!

Stress at work can be chaos for some workers. However, stress is normal in most workplaces. On the other hand, excessive stress can interfere with your productivity and have an impact on your physical and emotional health.

To avoid falling victim to this, we've put together some tips on how to deal with stress and keep your environment calm and collected.

Here are our TOP TEN tips on how to control stress within the workplace:

1-      Get enough sleep! – Being stressed can cause lack of sleep which isn’t the best when you have to be up early for work and this can cause you to be even stressier! Try to improve this by keeping a sleep schedule and aiming for at least 8 hours sleep a night. 

2-      Have a breather – If it’s getting too much for you in the workplace, it’s always best to take a breather. Plan into your schedule to take a break in the morning and afternoon, and go out of your office for some fresh air (leaving your mobile phone behind!). Time to gather your thoughts will make you feel relaxed and ready to take on the next task.

3-      Drink a warm drink – Take a break and make yourself a warm drink, whether it’s a coffee or tea it will instantly make you less tense and calmer. Tip for all of you that stress, have a CAMOMILE tea, this tea works wonders and relaxes you instantly.

4-      Meditation exercises- Taking a yoga class or doing yoga from home is the best way to calm and soothe the mind. It will make your stresses go away and keep you more focused on your outcomes in a positive manor. 

5-      Communicate with others –  Create a support network of the people around you so you are able to help each other when things get too much, and to gossip to to take your mind off things.

6-      Create work life balance - Unfortunately a lot of offices have a culture where working late is the norm. Work smart and make a daily plan so you complete the most important tasks first. Then book yourself into a yoga or drawing class a couple of evenings a week so you have something to look forward to after work. 

7-      Treat yourself- For some people, treating themselves to a little something can always take their minds off of stress. Whether it’s buying clothing, an item for your house or even a weekend away, this always tends to take you mind off the stresses of work, BUT only for a short period of time.   

8-      Exercise- Regular exercise is a powerful stress reliever, even though it may be the last thing you feel like doing after being at work! By doing workouts that raises your heart rate and makes you sweat, it is a highly effective way to lift your mood, increase energy and both the mind and body.   

9-      Avoid alcohol- Alcoholic tends to temporarily reduce anxiety and worry caused by stress. However this is only temporary and a few drinks after work will disrupt your sleep pattern and leave you feeling worse the next day. It is best to leave the wine for Friday nights!  

10-      Healthy Diet – Having a healthy diet can help you get through a stressful day in the office as eating the right food can maintain an even level of blood sugars, keeping your energy up and your eyes focused. Try almonds, a warming soup, or vegetables with hummus, and avoid sugar which will create a spike in your energy levels leaving you feel down later.
